About Our Story

Countless compelling stories lie forgotten in the archives of newspapers, journals, magazines, and book publishers. The mission of Blue Magpie Books is to identify those gems, and repurpose and repackage them for a modern audience, in e-book and in print-on-demand formats.

These might be the eyewitness accounts of explorers who discovered new lands and new peoples, reports of great moments in history, gripping tales of personal courage or sporting endeavour, or contemporaneous accounts of great lives.

Blue Magpie seeks to present the reader with the best, most comprehensive picture of a subject, using multiple archive sources from around the world. Our four volumes of contemporary obituaries of famous composers, for example, feature accounts from newspapers and specialist journals across America, Europe and the UK.

We also re-publish selected out-of-print books, where we feel the subject matter will be of interest to a modern audience.

Blue Magpie was founded in Sussex, England, 2018 by two former national newspaper journalists, Richard Ellis and Jacqueline Fuller.
